Education about food waste is very important and we found that it is not done as much as needed to change behaviors and raise aware consumers of the future. 15 pioneer #reducefoodwaste education projects in Central Europe submitted to the #reducefoodwaste education award 2019. The winners are- selected by the online voting (40%) and expert jury voting (60%)-: 1. How to make good use of food (Poland), 2. Restlos glücklich (Germany) and 3. FeldSchule (Austria).

Reward for the winners
The winners of this award will be invited to join the STREFOWA public conference on food waste prevention taking place in Prague in March 2019 to present their project and discuss with other participants about new ideas. Their invitation includes travel expenses and two overnight stays in Prague.

The #reducefoodwaste education award 2019 is open for educational activities and projects:
Submission will be accepted exclusively via online submission in English from 1.11.2018 – 18.1.2019 (Extended till January, 25th, 2019)
- dealing with food waste
- active or easy to reactivate
- within schools and educational institution – or - external offers easy feasible to implement in schools or educational institutions in Central Europe

Criteria for winning
All submission will be soon reviewed and proofed on the terms. As we assume it will be a great contribution we will publish it on the website.
25 projects will be nominated from the organizer team for the voting. From those 25 nominated projects three winners will be chosen as a combination of the results from the jury voting and online voting: jury 60 % – online 40%!

Jury
Markus Schermer (AUT)Markus Schermer studied Agriculture in Vienna and is conducting research since 1999 at the university of Innsbruck on the social aspects and development on food production and position of farmers in our society (Rural Sociology). From 2008-2010 Schermer was Head of Department of Sociology and is since then Deputy Head .

Katarzyna Błachowicz (PL) Katarzyna Błachowicz is a coordinator of the Cluster of Waste Management and Recycling - National Key Cluster.
Katarzyna Błachowicz is a specialist in the field of environmental protection. As an editor-in-chief of the "Recycling" journal, and the "Energy and Recycling and Circular economy" monthly and she publishes articles in the field of recycling, waste and the circular economy. |
Balázs Cseh (HU)He is the founding member and president of the Hungarian Food Bank Association, a member of the Board of Directors of the European Federation of Food Banks and of the EU Platform on Food Losses and Food Waste, organised by the European Commission. He is involved in many EU research and innovation projects.

What is STREFOWA?
STREFOWA is a three year project in Central Europe to find and design new ideas dealing with food waste. Our aim is to reduce food waste or to treat it in a better, more useful way.
The #reducefoodwaste awards are part of STREFOWA. In 2017 we gathered blog articles in the #reducefoodwaste blogger award 2017. The #reducefoodwaste project award 2018 showed the variety on interesting projects implemented in Central Europe.
