#reducefoodwaste project award 2018

We asked for and found the coolest projects that #reducefoodwaste in Central Europe. Find here active initiatives, associations, projects, start-ups, businesses, that contribute to #reducefoodwaste. The winners are- selected by the online voting (40%) and expert jury voting (60%)-: Ne meč’mo hrane stran! (Let’s not waste food!) (SI), Share a Meal with The Homeless (Podziel się Posiłkiem z Bezdomnymi) (PL) and Art of Dumplings (Knödelkult) (DE). ​
Let's #reducefoodwaste in Central Europe, one project at a time. 
It doesn’t matter if you work in a non-profit organization, that cooperates with food banks or if you are a CEO of a start-up, that has developed a mobile app helping households optimize their shopping and reduce food waste or if you cook with surplus food and hand it out for people in need. They are all eligible for the #reducefoodwaste project award 2018. Any active project in Central Europe (DE, AUT, IT, CZ, PL, HU, HR, SLO, SL) can be submitted to the #reducefoodwaste project award. 
Spread the idea of your project by submitting to the award – let it get shared by our community; let it get presented at our website. Besides, the Winners will be invited as external experts to present their project at an international meeting of food waste experts in Rimini, Italy in November 2018 and will get the chance to visit the ECOMONDO (more information will be announced soon). 
 
Ecomondo is the leading Euro-Mediterranean area green and circular economy expo. An international event with an innovative format that brings together all sectors of the circular economy in a single platform: from material and energy recovery to sustainable development.

​Call for Submissions

The #reducefoodwaste project award 2018 is open for any ongoing project dealing with food waste in Central Europe.
Submission will be accepted exclusively via online submission in English from 1.4.2018 – 03.6.2018.

Criteria for winning

All submissions will be reviewed and proofed on the terms. As we assume it will be a great contribution we will publish it on the website. 
25 projects will be nominated from the organizer team for the voting. From those 25 nominated projects the winners will be chosen as a combination of the the results from the jury voting and online voting: jury 60 % – online 40%!

Everybody can vote one time and support their favourite project from 4.6.2018 – 24.6.2018 – just visit the website and place your vote.

Jury-Voting

Our international jury will choose the most impactful project to #reducefoodwaste by these criteria:
  1. What are the potential ecological effects of the project?
    1. Does it contribute to improve food waste management?
    2. Does it contribute to prevent food from being wasted?
  2. How is the overall impression of the project?
  3. How big is the potential, that the project will be implemented somewhere else? That readers will take action on it?
  4. How innovative is the idea of the project?

The Jury

Markus Schermer (AUT)

Markus Schermer studied Agriculture in Vienna and is conducting research since 1999 at the university of Innsbruck on the social aspects and development on food production and position of farmers in our society (Rural Sociology). From 2008-2010 Schermer was Head of Department of Sociology and is since then Deputy Head . 

Katarzyna 
​Błachowicz
 (PL) ​
​

Katarzyna is director of the Pro terra ecological foundation. She was the editor-in-chief of the magazine "Recykling" (2007-2017), which focuses on food waste and waste. Katarzyna was also an editor in the monthly "Przegląd Komunalny". 

​Balázs Cseh (HU)

He is the founding member and president of the Hungarian Food Bank Association, a member of the Board of Directors of the European Federation of Food Banks and of the EU Platform on Food Losses and Food Waste, organised by the European Commission. He is involved in many EU research and innovation projects. ​

What is STREFOWA?

​STREFOWA is a three year project in Central Europe to find and design new ideas dealing with food waste. Our aim is to reduce food waste or to treat it in a better, more useful way.

The #reducefoodwaste award is part of STREFOWA. In 2017 we gathered blog articles in the #reducefoodwaste blogger award 2017. 2019 will be another award to #reducefoodwaste.
